Hans Wijninga (°1965 Arnhem NL) reflects in his work photography itself. He tests the limits of the medium, searching for the essence of the image. The game between reality and the experience of reality is of central importance within these practices. By minimising visually recognisable elements in his photographs, he reaches the point at which one can just still speak of an image. Essentially, Wijninga has adopted an extreme position within photography. His work signifies a fundamental research on the modes that typify the photographic medium: space, light and time.
