Hans Op de Beeck - Sea Of Tranquility

"The exhibition 'Sea of Tranquillity' includes, besides a mid-length movie, also a large sculptural scale version of the imaginary ship ('Sea of Tranquillity (model)'), two life-sized dummies representing the captain ('Captain') and a chambermaid ('Chambermaid'), a huge model evoking a shipyard ('Shipyard (sleeping containers)'), a series of large black-and-white watercolours, and several props.
As such, 'Sea of Tranquillity' is a broad project dealing with utopia, history, economics, sociology, meaning and our problematic age of false values, improper categories and unethical relationships. It has a complex and poetic charge, but also presents a touch of irony regarding the superficial, safe and unimaginative leisure opportunities that are on offer on board the ship."
